Hadden Hall, the new 37,000-square-foot student recreation centre, and the Desmarais Family Outdoor Education Wing provide much needed athletic and outdoor education amenities for the school’s 365 students.
Within Hadden Hall, the McEwan Gymnasium features a vaulted wood ceiling supported on steel trusses with large windows offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape and lake beyond. This facility will be used not only for athletic sports and practices but also provides a spectacular backdrop for social and special events. The north-west corner of Hadden Hall is home to an indoor climbing space that includes a 35ft tall rock face and a bouldering area for novice to advanced climbing skill levels. On the upper level of Hadden Hall, the Aerobic and Fitness Centre includes rooms weight and fitness training and spaces for co-curricular activities, such as the dance program. An indoor ice facility has been developed to a schematic level and is dependent on funding.
Hadden Hall is heated and cooled by a state-of-the-art geothermal system located under the soccer field. The building employs a variety of additional sustainable initiatives and has achieved its target of LEED Gold Certification.
