Diamond Schmitt Architects in association with DIALOG: Planning Design and Compliance Team

This project includes the redevelopment of 400,000 square feet at St Michael’s Hospital. A 17-storey addition, the Patient Care Tower, provides approximately 250,000 square feet of new space for the right-sizing and modernization of acute care services, critical care and peri-operative services (including the addition of hybrid operating rooms); a 30,000 square foot addition, the New Shuter Wing, replaces an existing 100-year old facility and provides new space for an expanded Emergency Department; and 100,000 square feet of the house ambulatory clinics and administrative functions are being renovated.

In addition to expansion and modernization of clinical programs, the project includes significant improvements to public space and circulation systems, including a complete re-structuring of the vertical circulation strategy.  The creation of new public lobbies linked by a central “main street” greatly simplifies wayfinding and supports “on stage/off stage” separations for clinical programs.
