Fanshawe College’s Innovation Village responds to the changing pedagogies of the 21st century, demonstrating how innovative architecture can empower cities to meet urgent social and environmental challenges.
Designed to support a culture of active and experiential learning, the vibrant campus hub prioritizes a diversity of spaces that can be adapted for multiple users across faculties and encourage impromptu interactions, cross-disciplinary collaborations, industry partnerships. Shaped by deep student and Indigenous engagement, the project offers a safe, inclusive environment where sustainability is physically embodied in a custom Building-Integrated Photovoltaic cladding—an expression of the facility’s commitment to innovation.
As part of the OAA Continuing Education Webinar series, Principal Sydney Browne and Associate Elcin Unal will present “Innovation in Action at Fanshawe College” sharing insights into the design strategies, sustainable technologies, and Indigenous consultation that have transformed the Innovation Village at Fanshawe College into a campus landmark and regional engine for change.
Participants will explore how collaborative design can dissolve disciplinary silos, understand the use of BIPV façades in reducing carbon footprints, learn how Indigenous consultation shapes inclusive design, and examine evolving models of academic architecture.
