Event Details:
Conference: RAIC Whole Building Life Cycle Assessment Workshop
Speaker(s): Jeff Mitchell
Location: The Algonquin Resort - 184 Adolphus Street, St. Andrews, NB, E5B 1T7
Date: October 8, 2024
Time: 7:45 am
Join Senior Associate Jeff Mitchell at the RAIC 2024 Congress on Architecture where he will be conducting a Whole Building Life Cycle Assessment Workshop.
On October 8, at 7:45am ADT, Jeff will deliver a theory-based lecture on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), embodied carbon, and related methodologies, engaging participants in a hands-on workshop in which they will learn the basics of how to perform an assessment in small groups. Assessing embodied carbon has an impact throughout a building’s life cycle and is a necessary step in a shift towards regenerative and lower carbon design. As the Canadian built environment is the third-highest source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, there is an urgent and critical need to accelerate the knowledge, skills and competencies of professionals who design Canada’s buildings.
This workshop, hosted by the RAIC in collaboration with Ha/f Climate Design, is tailored for architectural professionals who want to learn about Life Cycle Assessment and how to reduce embodied carbon in real-life projects. Participants will leave the session with knowledge of definitions, methods, targets and standards as well as having the opportunity to practice with LCA software to implement into practice.
