Sybil Wa


Ms. Wa is a Senior Associate with Diamond Schmitt Architects and is based in New York City, where she is working on the re-imagination of David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center. She has contributed to a broad range of civic and institutional projects including public art, academic buildings and theatres. She is a LEED accredited architect.

Ms. Wa’s management experience includes the 2,000-seat Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia, where her responsibilities included coordinating the interiors with the structural engineering team and acousticians, focused on the design, technical requirements and interiors package for the auditorium. On the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto, Ms. Wa was team architect from design development through construction administration. Most recently, Ms. Wa was the project manager for the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Her work on academic facilities includes design development for the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning at the University of Calgary and Havergal College in Toronto. She was a project manager for the LEED Gold certified Camilla and Peter Dalglish Pavilion at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington.

Her advocacy relating to urban issues has been a professional and personal focus, attracting media coverage by The National Post, Canada AM and CBC Radio, among others. In addition, she has written Op-Ed pieces published by the Toronto Star including “Shaping Your Growing City”, “All Solutions Should Be Beautiful”, “No Space for Families in Downtown Condos” and “Toronto Needs More Downtown Playgrounds.” As a member of the Toronto Community Housing Design Review Panel and Ryerson University City Building Institute Advisory Committee, Ms. Wa has worked to envision and make thriving urban communities a priority.
