Join Principal Sydney Browne at the CICan Connection Pre-Conference Forum, where she will be speaking about innovation through collaboration at Red River College Polytechnic’s (RRC Polytech) Manitou a bi Bii daziigae.

On April 28, 2024 at 11:45am MT Sydney will discuss one of the most advanced and forward-thinking buildings of its kind in Canada together with Maria Mendes, Director, Environmental Stewardship & Campus Renewal at RRC Polytech; Frank Koreman, Project Manager at Akman Construction Ltd.; and Phil Dompierre Principal at Crosier Kilgour.

Manitou a bi Bii daziigae is a 100,00 sf building that represents Indigenous knowledge, teachings, and traditions while also blending modernity and heritage. The new building’s façade is made of Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) panels, and emits little to no net carbon emissions – an ambitious goal considering Winnipeg’s extreme prairie climate. This innovative concept – a Canadian first – conceals solar cells behind nano-coated glass panels. Through its adaptive-reuse of a historic building and a four-story addition connected to the existing campus, the building provides a new space that nurtures creativity, collaboration and innovation. These aspirations informed the design process to identify key experiences underpinning what innovation means and what can be accomplished in the spirit of collaboration.
