Speaker(s): David Dow
Location: Sheraton Centre, 123 Queen St W, Toronto
Date: October 7, 2026
Time: 9:30 am
At the Zak World of Façades Toronto conference, Principal David Dow will present the enclosure strategy behind the future Temerty Building at the University of Toronto’s St. George campus, demonstrating how contemporary architectural design can respond to and respect its rich historical context.
Designed by Diamond Schmitt and MVRDV, in collaboration with Two Row Architect, the 9-storey, 388,000-square-foot academic and research hub will integrate the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Arts & Science’s Department of Cell & Systems Biology within a high-performance, future-ready environment. Its massing and envelope design will mediate between the university’s historic context and its urban core.
David’s presentation will focus on the technical execution of the building’s exterior wall, highlighting how the design team is integrating stone within a high-performance curtain wall system to unite traditional campus materiality with modern building envelope technologies. The session will also detail how prefabricated modular façade construction can be leveraged to optimize building efficiency, quality control, and installation precision.
