Construction is now underway at Uxbridge Hospital, marking a milestone in the transformation of health care in the region. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in the presence of Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones, Pickering–Uxbridge MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy, Oak Valley Health President and CEO Mark Fam, and Vice President and COO Elena Pacheco.
Responding to Uxbridge's growing and aging population’s increasing demand for health services, the redevelopment project will deliver a larger, state-of-the-art facility designed to provide modern, integrated care. The new hospital will be fully connected to the broader health system while preserving its long-standing connection to the Uxbridge community and maintaining the family culture among staff.
Once complete, the new Uxbridge Hospital will support higher patient capacity, reduce wait times, and expand essential services such as diagnostic imaging, cardiorespiratory care, laboratory, and pharmacy. It will also enhance access to inpatient, emergency, and ambulatory care.
Beyond addressing patients' physical and mental care, the design prioritizes environments that support caregiver and staff wellness and encourage family involvement. The facility will provide expanded family spaces, dedicated wellness and respite areas for staff, and flexible layouts that adapt to changing patient volumes while fostering team cohesion and safety. It will also include areas designed to promote learning and collaboration.
"This redevelopment reflects Oak Valley Health’s vision of integrated care—bringing together a new hospital, post-acute care, long-term care, ambulatory services and primary care in a more connected way to support every stage of a patient’s health journey. It’s a step toward building healthier communities, with care that’s modern, accessible, and close to home” says Mark Famm President and CEO, Oak Valley Health. “We’re proud to start construction on a future-ready health system that will serve patients and families for years to come.”
