The design of the Temerty Building at the University of Toronto is featured on Dezeen in an article by Ellen Eberhardt.
Located on the edge of a campus lawn, the new research facility designed by Diamond Schmitt and MVRDV in collaboration with Two Row Architect is guided by Indigenous design principles, prioritizing a commitment to designing with the land.
Drawing from its surroundings, the building's massing references regional geological formations, such as the Niagara Escarpment and historic shoreline of Lake Iroquois, while its medicinal landscape embeds Indigenous knowledge and practices within the daily life of the building.
At nine storeys, the facility will house two lower teaching floors and seven floors of labs, all organized around a central atrium that serves as the social heart. The interior is designed to create a sense of warmth and transparency with a wooden structural system and cladded ceilings, complemented by double-height windows on the ground level that open onto the campus beyond.
