Diamond Schmitt named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers 2025
Toronto, ON – For the 10th consecutive year, Diamond Schmitt has earned a place among Canada’s Greenest Employers. Selected by Mediacorp Canada Inc, who organizes Canada’s Top 100 Employers project, this recognition highlights the firm’s commitment to fostering a culture of environmental awareness.
"A key benefit of these programs is how closely they align with the values of younger generations entering the workforce, who have been raised with the expectation of incorporating environmental considerations in their daily lives," says Richard Yerema, executive editor of the project.
Companies are evaluated through their green initiatives, success in reducing their environmental footprint, active employee involvement in environmental initiatives, and whether these have become linked to the employer’s public identity.
"[…] we evaluate employers from the perspective of a job-seeker," says Chantel Watkins, assistant editor at Mediacorp. "While big-ticket goals like reducing greenhouse gas emissions and offsetting carbon are important for society, we look for initiatives that directly engage employees in creating greener organizations. These programs embed sustainability as a value within an employer's culture for the long term."
Here are some of the reasons why Diamond Schmitt was selected as one of Canada's Greenest Employers (2025):
- In addition to numerous completed LEED projects, Diamond Schmitt Architects' building portfolio includes ten net-zero certified projects, with an additional five projects underway as well as one completed net-zero ready project.
- Diamond Schmitt Architects helps employees develop their environmental skills and knowledge with bi-weekly lunch and learn sessions and webinars focused on sustainability, as well as training opportunities for certifications including Passive House and WELL AP -- the firm also created a unique 'ecoMetrics' database of its completed projects to help designers better understand energy reduction methods.
- Diamond Schmitt Architects encourages employees to leave the car at home with on-site shower facilities and indoor bicycle storage to accommodate over 60 bikes.
