The Canadian Green Building Awards recognize excellence in the design and execution of Canadian residential and non-residential buildings of all types, including new construction, existing buildings, renovations and interior design projects. Fanshawe College Innovation Village has been named a 2025 winner in the Institutional (Large) category.

Designed as a vibrant space fosters cross-disciplinary collaboration and accommodates diverse learning styles, the 126,828-square-foot facility transforms and expands the College’s core, bringing together previously disconnected spaces together and creating a new light-filled campus hub. Focused on sustainability, Innovation Village is enveloped in custom BIPV cladding that generates renewable energy on-site that powers the building.

“The decision to create a central campus focus through a project that combines both retention and new construction was a strategic move to support environmental and social sustainability. The challenges of daylighting and energy efficiency resulting from increased building density were elegantly addressed with a day-lit atrium, clerestory windows, and an innovative BIPV cladding system featuring both active and passive solar panels,” commented the Jury.
