The development marks a major milestone in Ottawa Community Housing’s commitment to expanding affordable housing, setting new standards for sustainability and strengthening community integration.
Designed by Diamond Schmitt, in collaboration with KWC Architects, Gladstone Village will introduce more than 300 affordable homes to Ottawa, addressing the needs of growing families and those seeking to age in place.
“In designing the first phase of Gladstone Village, we wanted to envision a building that goes beyond the typical affordable housing typology, and that creates a real sense of community and belonging," says Principal Nigel Tai.
The project emphasizes inclusivity and active living with amenity spaces that are designed to encourage interaction between residents and foster connection. Gladstone Village neighbours a park and will include new streets, multi-use pathways, and be in close proximity to transit, connecting the site to existing landmarks, amenities, and future developments in the area.
Gladstone Village is designed to Passive House-equivalent performance. Tenets such as thermal comfort and resiliency are at the heart of high-performance building design, and they help to define the high-quality building elements that compose the building enclosure; promoting good community stewardship through building design to mitigate climate change.
Designed and being built to Passive House standards, Gladstone Village will also include high-efficiency mechanical systems, promoting community health and well-being while demonstrating responsible environmental stewardship.
