The NAIOP Greater Toronto Chapter’s Real Estate Excellence (REX) Awards are the most prestigious standards of achievement within the commercial real estate development industry.

This year, the LiUNA Local 183 headquarters has been named a finalist for Development of the Year which recognizes development/redevelopment projects completed or substantially completed during January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024.

The new 290,000 square-foot building for North America’s largest construction local union is located in a new urban precinct in Vaughan and is the cornerstone of a developing campus for LiUNA. Standing as the heart and soul of the organization, the headquarters is as much of a community centre as it is an office. Providing collaborative and flexible workspaces for LiUNA 183 staff, augmented community services for members, and a large, multi-use assembly hall, the landmark facility shapes activity in an area that previously had no development and creates a sense of place out of nothing – a place for trades to gather, establishing a new community hub for the City of Vaughan.

Projects were evaluated on five key judging criteria: Quality & Functionality (15%), Financial & Development Performance (30%), Innovation & Creativity (35%), Sustainability Considerations (20%), and other considerations.

Winners will be announced at a gala on June 19, 2025.
