Manitou a bi Bii daziigae has received a 2024 SCUP/AIA-CAE Award of Excellence in Architecture in the New Building category as an Honorable Mention Award recipient.

Every year, the SCUP Excellence Awards honour exemplary buildings that are the result of collaborative planning in response to community contexts including academic and student life programs, and campus master plans.

As Canada’s largest institute of applied learning and research, and western Canada’s top applied research college, Manitou a bi Bii daziigae was designed to advance its mission as a leading institute.

The highly sustainable learning hub unites a repurposed heritage industrial building with new construction to create an engaging crossroads in Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District.

The 100,000 sf building hosts flexible, high-tech, and interactive spaces that nurture creativity and collaboration; and connects students with education and industry professionals in ways that facilitate social innovation, enterprise and pioneering research. These aspirations informed the design process to identify key experiences underpinning what innovation means. The design reflects a sense of wonder, imagination, empathy, mystery and passion, and that the Innovation Centre inspire these qualities in students and faculty.

From 120 applications, the jury selected 15 entries to receive awards this year; 1 Jury’s Choice, 3 Honor, 4 Merit, 4 Honorable Mention(s), and 3 Special Citation. Winning entries will be featured at SCUP's 2024 Annual Conference, July 21st - July 23rd in Philadelphia, PA.
