Carmen Corbasson Community Centre is spotlighted in sb Magazine's June 2026 Aquatic Centres and Spas issue.

Designed as a pavilion in the forest, the renewal and expansion project reimagines an established civic recreation complex with the addition of a new mass timber natatorium, fitness centre, aerobics studio, and expanded lobby connected to the existing arena and gymnasium. Together, these programs broaden the building's recreational offering, improve accessibility, and support participation across ages and abilities.

Extending the architectural logic of the original building, the design creates a cohesive and legible whole. A renewed east-west circulation spine connects the lobby to the pool, linking major program areas and enhancing wayfinding through direct sightlines, daylight, and carefully placed glazed openings.

In the natatorium, mass timber is both an environmental and experiential choice, reducing embodied carbon while bringing the warmth and biophilic qualities of wood into a space dedicated to wellness, recreation, and community gathering.
