The Waverley House Secure Care & Recovery Building, part of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s (CAMH) Queen Street campus redevelopment, has topped off, marking a major milestone in expanding Ontario's capacity to support complex mental health care.

Diamond Schmitt is leading the design, together with Architectural Resources, as part of the PCL Partnerships team.

Replacing outdated facilities for patients with complex mental illness who have encountered the legal system, the seven-storey building will provide 234 patient beds, clinics for community-based care, recovery-focused therapeutic spaces, and secure outdoor areas for treatment. The design creates a modern, respectful, and compassionate space that supports healing, advances patient recovery, and strengthens CAMH's connection to the surrounding community.

By prioritizing patient-centred design and therapeutic innovation, the Waverley House will set a new standard for forensic mental health care and recovery, ensuring patients receive the high-quality, dignified care they deserve, while contributing to a safer, healthier community.
