BUILDEX Alberta 2024: Solar-Ready Design | Preparing for Solar Photovoltaics

Event Details:

Conference: BUILDEX Alberta 2024
Speaker(s): Jeff Geldart
Location: BMO Centre at Stampede Park, 20 Round Up Way SE, Calgary, AB T2G 2W1
Date: October 24, 2024
Time: 9:00 am

Join Associate Jeff Geldart at BUILDEX Alberta 2024 where he will be speaking alongside Stephanie Westlund, Solar Training Lead at Solar Alberta, in the session Solar-Ready Design: Preparing for Solar Photovoltaics on October 24 at 9am MDT. Together, Jeff and Stephanie will address the need for green builders and solar installers to work together to reach emissions neutral building objectives.

Stephanie will explore why solar-ready design is in-demand and delve into the steps needed to ensure that buildings are constructed and renovated in a way that prepares them for solar photovoltaic (PV) additions. She will also cover solar-ready design at the community-level by discussing how neighbourhoods can be developed in ways that optimize solar potential, and how municipalities can be solar-friendly.  Jeff will discuss practical examples based on several of Diamond Schmitt’s recent projects, including the use of building-integrated PV (BIPV) and PV glazing, and the project complexities of coordination that can be involved. His presentation will focus on two Diamond Schmitt projects as case studies for BIPV use: the completed Manitou a bi Bii daziigae at RRC Polytech, and Ādisōke, the new Ottawa Public Library – Library and Archives Canada joint facility which is currently under construction.
