In[Sites] EP4: Advancing health and recovery through design

Healthcare facilities are essential community infrastructure and among the most complex environments we design. While technically demanding, these spaces have a direct influence on patient outcomes, operational performance, and the well-being of those who deliver care.

In the latest episode of In[Sites], Principals Matt Smith and Sydney Browne reflect on how the intersection of community, health, and wellness shapes our approach. From grounding facilities in their natural and urban contexts, to fostering dignity and supporting recovery, to integrating research and teaching through a “bench to bedside” model, our work aims to bring innovation directly into the path of care.

Through this holistic lens, we design healthcare spaces that build resilience, advance public health, and strengthen connections between people, place, and care.

In[Sites] is a video series that focuses on the people leading design excellence at Diamond Schmitt.
