Two centres strengthening community life in Oakville

To strengthen community life in Oakville, two hubs bring together heritage, design, and wellness, offering a mix of amenities and programming that support active lifestyles and social connection for all ages.

The Trafalgar Park Community Centre honours the town’s history through the restoration of the Arena, a heritage landmark. Its original wood truss roof remains a defining feature, while the rink has been expanded to NHL dimensions, and common areas have been renovated to meet modern standards for accessibility and functionality.

Adjacent to the arena, a new community centre addition connects via a shared galleria, encouraging interaction between both spaces. Amenities include a gymnasium, indoor walking track, fitness studio, seniors’ centre, and flexible multi-purpose rooms.

Nearby, the Oakville Trafalgar Community Centre transforms a former hospital site into a dynamic civic hub. Inspired by a nearby Chimney Swift colony, the design celebrates the area’s natural heritage and seamlessly connects the building to the surrounding park, neighbourhood, and public amenities.

Simple geometric forms define the structure, housing a spacious gymnasium, a two-storey galleria beneath an exposed glulam roof, and an aquatics area flooded with natural light through bird-friendly glazing. A playful palette of blues and whites flows from the façade into the interior, which together with public art in the galleria, creates a welcoming and lively environment.

With a strong focus on accessibility, sustainability, and durability, both centres are designed to serve current and future generations of the Oakville community.
