Saint John, NB – The New Brunswick Museum entered the next phase of its Revitalize NBM project with an official groundbreaking ceremony.
Designed by Diamond Schmitt, in association with EXP, the New Brunswick Museum revitalization project will partially rebuild and expand the heritage building in Saint John, while maintaining its historical façade. Leveraging the historical site’s extraordinary topography, the new museum building will capture views of both the urban center and Harbour, and the stunning natural landscape and river to the west.
When completed, the museum’s research work and exhibitions will be brought together within one sustainable, decarbonized facility that fully supports the museum’s mission of preserving, researching, interpreting, and exhibiting the natural and cultural heritage of the Province of New Brunswick.
"The groundbreaking for the Revitalize NBM project is the next phase in the realization of a provincial museum all New Brunswickers can be proud of,” said Museum Board Chair Tracy Clinch. “Our new home will be a community facility that embraces sustainability and innovation and embodies our commitment to preserving and celebrating New Brunswick's rich natural and cultural heritage.”
Work is expected to take about 2 1/2 years, with the reopening of the museum scheduled for 2027.
