Toronto, ON - For the eleventh consecutive year, Diamond Schmitt has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers by Mediacorp Canada Inc. This competition highlights small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that offer the country’s best workplaces and progressive HR practices.
More Canadians are turning to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for career growth, flexibility and meaningful work. Compared to larger employers, SMEs usually offer faster-paced environments where employees can take on more responsibility early in their careers, shape their roles and develop skills faster.
“Our SME winners have always provided dynamic environments where employees are in the driver’s seat in mapping out their career paths,” says Richard Yerema, executive editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. “But what’s changing is their ability to match larger employers in terms of benefits such as vacation allowance, mental health support, and family-friendly benefits. The differences between these SMEs and the winners on our national list are becoming increasingly smaller.”
Here are some of the reasons why Diamond Schmitt was selected:
- Diamond Schmitt Architects actively recruits post-secondary students for paid co-op work terms ranging between four to eight months – students work collaboratively to help develop their architectural skills, including detailing, documentation and drawing preparation.
- Diamond Schmitt Architects incorporates employee feedback when selecting charitable initiatives to support and matches employee donations in kind, up to $1,500 per employee per year.
- Diamond Schmitt Architects supports all new parents with maternity and parental leave top-up payments, to 80 per cent of salary for up to 12 weeks – and offers returning parents the option to ease back into work with phased-in options.
Diamond Schmitt also offers a benefits package focused on supporting employee wellness and flexibility. This includes coverage of up to 75% of health plan premiums, hybrid work options, flexible hours, reduced summer schedules, and three weeks’ vacation for new hires.
To foster ongoing development, the firm provides in-house training, apprenticeships, paid internships, and up to 100% tuition reimbursement for approved programs.
“Today’s employees are looking for flexibility, purpose, and an opportunity to grow,” adds Kristina Leung, managing editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. “This year’s SME winners are rising to the challenge with competitive benefits and a workplace culture that prioritizes personal and professional development. They are a top choice for Canadians at any stage of their career.”
