Toronto, ON, December 2, 2024 – For the thirteenth year in a row, Diamond Schmitt is listed as one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers. This year’s competition, managed by Mediacorp, recognizes employers that are developing human resources programs and forward-thinking workplace policies to ensure that all their employees – regardless of their background – are able to thrive and get ahead in the nation’s most competitive labour market.

One of the reasons Diamond Schmitt earned its place on the list is its:

“Specialized learning opportunities through its in-house Diamond Schmitt University -- programs include "Details + Donuts", drop-in sessions featuring a member of the management team live sketching a detail from the firm's portfolio, and DSU Tours (walking tours hosted by the firm's Principal, exploring notable projects from Diamond Schmitt's portfolio)”

In a region celebrated for its multicultural and diverse population, making it one of the world’s most dynamic urban areas, diversity and inclusion acts as the driving force for employer’s continued success. This begins with cultivating connections, investing in employee growth, and nurturing a sense of belonging.

“To retain employees over the long term, employers need to offer benefits and programs that encourage their people to grow with the organization. The best employers constantly raise the bar by making these benefits flexible, so employees can really customize them to suit their needs.” says Richard Yerema, executive editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project.

Some of the benefits that Diamond Schmitt offers include:

“[Helping] employees save for the future with matching RSP contributions and [providing] retirement planning assistance to encourage employees to think long term”

 As well as

“ [Taking] a thoughtful approach when helping employees manage unexpected challenges, offering compassionate leave top-up for those called upon to care for a loved one (to 80 per cent of salary for up to 17 weeks).”

On a yearly basis, employers are assessed based on eight criteria: Workplace; Work Atmosphere & Social; Health; Financial & Family Benefits; Vacation & Time Off; Employee Communications; Performance Management; Training & Skills Development; and Community Involvement.

“This year’s winners recognize that strong cultures are built on genuine connections and shared experiences,” says Kristina Leung, managing editor at Mediacorp. “Social events, for example, create the circumstances for individuals to connect on a personal level, beyond their daily roles and with people they don’t always see. These engagements improve morale and engagement, fostering a sense of belonging that helps individuals feel included and valued for their contribution.”

In addition to training and skills development and financial and family benefits listed above, Diamond Schmitt excels across all categories, offering a hybrid work model, modern office amenities, engaging social events, and health benefits including mental wellness support. Employees enjoy at least three weeks of vacation, annual performance reviews with 360° feedback and bonuses for achievements. Additionally, Diamond Schmitt is deeply committed to charity, supporting organizations like Habitat for Humanity and matching employee donations, with staff volunteering over 400 hours annually.
