For the fourteenth year in a row, Diamond Schmitt has been recognized as one of Greater Toronto’s (GTA) Top Employers. Managed by Mediacorp, this year’s competition highlights employers that are leading the way in creating workplaces that reflect their communities while effectively managing the return to in-office work.

As one of Canada’s most diverse urban centres, the Greater Toronto Area naturally embraces diversity and inclusion in its workplaces. “It’s part of their DNA,” says Stephanie Leung, editor at Mediacorp. At the same time, employers face the challenge of returning staff to the office. “While there’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution when it comes to returning to the office,” notes Kristina Leung, managing editor of the program, “the ‘right’ return-to-office policy balances these two competing interests in a sensitive way.”

This year, the GTA’s Top Employers are recognized for implementing industry-specific policies that give their employees the tools and support they need to make the transition. These include expanded initiatives such as social events, in-person training sessions, and investments in re-imagined workspaces, allowing office life to become more social and help employees advance in their careers.

At Diamond Schmitt, our commitment to employees extends well beyond the logistics of returning to the office. By fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and professional growth, we ensure that every team member feels connected, valued, and empowered to reach their full potential. Some of the reasons we continue to be named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers include:

  • Career-planning support and learning programs such as Diamond Schmitt University, DSUonline, office-wide design meetings, and a range of in-house training options including mentoring, apprenticeships, leadership development, online training, paid internships, and support for professional accreditation.
  • An employee social committee that hosts a variety of events, including Nowruz and Chinese New Year celebrations, ski day, holiday parties, pub nights, Pi Day competitions, summer picnics, and performances by our in-house band, ThunderTruss.
  • A renovated loft-style office (renovated by the firm to LEED Commercial Interior standards) close to public transit, featuring natural light, exposed brick, a 3D-printing room, expanded bike storage, sit-stand desks, a nap room, a religious observance room, and a self-serve lunchroom.

Additionally, work–life balance is supported through paid holiday shutdowns, reduced summer hours, optional work-from-home Fridays, and family-friendly leave options. Employees receive comprehensive health benefits with health/lifestyle spending accounts, as well as retirement planning support and RRSP matching. The firm also offers annual 360° reviews, performance bonuses, and referral bonuses.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Greater Toronto Area’s Top Employers competition, which recognizes workplace innovators who best reflect the talent, culture, and community of Canada’s most vibrant urban region.
