The Edmonton Urban Design Awards recognize the best new projects that demonstrate exemplary urban design in Edmonton.

Laurent and Eleanor mixed-use development is nominated in the Housing Innovation category which recognizes residential projects of a high architectural standard, of any size and scale, that demonstrate innovation in housing design and promote community health and wellbeing. The award highlights projects that exhibit creative and innovative solutions to address accessibility, affordability, sustainability, housing diversity and neighbourhood intensification.

The 680,000-square-foot transit-oriented development includes two residential components: a student residence (Laurent) and a market-rental tower (Eleanor), as well as 7,000 square feet of commercial retail space. Introducing diverse housing options for both students and young professionals, the project enhances the already vibrant Garneau residential neighbourhood.

Throughout the design process, extensive community consultation played a central role. Ongoing dialogue with residents and support from the Garneau Community League helped shape the design, ensuring the inclusion of amenities that reflect the residents evolving needs—creating a connected community that blends living, learning, and working.

People’s Choice Award voting is now open until October 3, 2025! Winners will be announced on November 20.
