Toronto, ON – Wonder Condos has been nominated for a 2024 Heritage Toronto Awards in the Built Heritage Category.
The annual Heritage Toronto Awards recognize building owners who have undertaken projects to conserve or adapt a historic property or architectural feature, and the excellence in conservation practice and craftsmanship performed by the project teams. In recognition of preservation and innovation efforts that celebrate this city's rich history, there are nominations across three categories: Books, Public History, and Built Heritage.
Designed by Diamond Schmitt, with Heritage Architects GBCA, Wonder Condos repurposes the former Weston Bakery, which produced Wonder Bread in the Leslieville area, into a mixed-use residential complex owned by Graywood Developments and Alterra. Preserving the Edwardian brick facade as part of the new U-shaped building that creates an interior courtyard, Wonder Condos demonstrates how a heritage building can be incorporated into new construction without losing its character, breathing life back into an abandoned space.
This year, the Built Heritage category features 13 nominees, that will be announced winners across three awards: adaptive reuse, crafts and trades work and heritage planning and architecture.
The winners of the 2024 Heritage Toronto Awards will be announced on October 28th, 2024.
