Centennial College Residence and Culinary Arts

The School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts at Centennial College’s Progress campus is a unique hybrid student residence and academic facility – a living, learning, and social environment. The overarching goal of the project was to create an inclusive and vibrant community, essential as many students are living away from home for the first time.

Upon entering the building, students will begin their journey of professional development, hands on learning and personal growth. Entrances on the north side for the residence and south for the school separate the two dynamics of the building. The central courtyard acts as a gathering space and provides daylight to residence rooms. Large glass panels allow academic labs on the lower level to bathe in natural light and those passing by can observe students learning in the facilities.

The academic program includes Culinary and Baking labs and a fully operational dual concept cafe and restaurant. Students learn on the job in a safe environment, gaining confidence and work experience which leads to more employment opportunities following graduation. The 740-bed residence includes two- and four-bed suites with shared bathrooms and kitchens, provides a well-considered balance in order for students to experience both the community engagement of on-campus living and privacy for study and self-reflection. A large event centre for banquets and conferences occupies the top floor with stunning views across the city.
