Time: 8:45 am
Principal Matthew Lella will lead an architectural tour of La Maison Symphonique as part of the RAIC Conference on Monday, June 2nd in Montreal, from 8:45 AM to 12:00 PM.
La Maison Symphonique completed Montreal’s Place des Arts in 2011. It sits comfortably at the corner of St-Urbain and De Maisonneuve, yet the some of the room’s most important symbolic neighbours are the great concert halls of Vienna, Boston and Amsterdam.
La Maison has the acoustical strength of the world’s best classical halls - intimate, immediate and enveloping. Its dynamic shape furthers the concept of a traditional auditorium by wedding the well-loved sound of shoebox shape with the architectural power of a surround hall where audience seating wraps the stage.
In many ways, La Maison created a new hybrid concert hall typology, which influenced the transformation of David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Centre.
The tour will include public lobbies, the auditorium, stage, and pipe organ, backstage, the music library, and rehearsal spaces, as well as a technical attic (limited accessibility). It will also include a guided visit to Place Victoria.
