Diamond Schmitt named to Canada’s Top Small and Medium Employers 2023

Diamond Schmitt Architects has reaffirmed its status in Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers (SME) program for the ninth year in a row. The competition, managed by Mediacorp Canada Inc., recognizes small and medium enterprises that offer the nation’s best workplaces and forward-thinking human resources policies.
"The employers chosen this year represent the 'best of the best' and many have pioneered initiatives that would have been unthinkable five years ago," says Kristina Leung, managing editor of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project. "These trailblazers are among the first in Canada to adopt new HR initiatives, such as offering permanent hybrid work options and removing formal caps on vacation allowance and paid time off."
Employers were evaluated by the editors of Canada's Top Small & Medium Employers using eight criteria: (1) Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement.
Some of the reasons Diamond Schmitt was recognized were:
- Diamond Schmitt encourages employees to become recruiters for the firm with generous new employee referral bonuses, up to $2,000 depending on the position.
- Diamond Schmitt Architects encourages employees to adopt healthy habits through health challenges organized by the company's benefits provider (with redeemable points as rewards for completing activities) and free access to LIFT Sessions’ exercise library (with over 1,200 instructor-led on-demand online exercise videos).
- Diamond Schmitt Architects understands the need for employees to focus on their mental health, offering a mental health practitioner's benefit, ranging from $500 to $1,500 annually.
