Principal Michael Treacy has been named a Fellow of the RAIC by The College of Fellows of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC). Fellowships are bestowed upon individuals through a nomination process in recognition of members for their contribution to research, scholarship, public service, and professional standing to the good of architecture in Canada. Michael has been recognized for his distinguished contribution through excellence in architectural design, design management and innovation, and his exceptional professional achievements.

Michael has been a principal at Diamond Schmitt since 2009. He brings a deep commitment to the design and management of complex projects and is highly skilled at leading specialized teams towards successful outcomes for both his clients and the communities they serve. His range of talents includes the entire architectural process from design to construction with a particular focus on the social wellbeing of both the users of his buildings as well as his colleagues and collaborators. 

Michael has led many notable, award-winning projects during his career, demonstrating extraordinary leadership, design capability and technical excellence. These include the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto, the Mariinsky II in St. Petersburg, Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre in St. Catharines, Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness in Brampton, and the Confederation Line West Extension in Ottawa. Additionally, he was a major contributor to the design of La Maison Symphonique in Montreal, the Museum Station revitalization in Toronto, and the Shakespeare Theatre Company's Sidney Harman Hall in Washington, DC. He is currently leading the Secure Care and Recovery Building at CAMH in Toronto that will strengthen the Centre’s forensic services. 

In addition to his deep involvement in project design and execution, Michael has been a tremendous leader within the studio culture of Diamond Schmitt, serving on the executive committee for over 10 years, interviewing prospective architects as part of the office recruitment team, and leading the architect assignment committee. Michael’s leadership has been a significant factor in the growth and success of the entire studio. 

Michael will be officially inducted to the RAIC College on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at a convocation ceremony during the RAIC Conference in Montreal, QC.
