Matthew Smith graduated from the University of Waterloo where he received a Bachelor of Environmental Studies degree and a Bachelor of Architecture degree. His experience includes prominent public and academic buildings, master planning and urban design. He was made a Principal in 2010.

Since joining the firm in 2003, Matthew’s responsibilities include coordinating communication between the client and project team, formulating detailed design, and ensuring construction documents convey a detailed program. He delivered the Master Plan for the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, which entailed the campus and construction of nine buildings, all adhering to a strict sustainable design mandate.

Since 2005, Matthew has been working with St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, initially as project architect for the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, a 300,000 s.f. integrated research and education facility, and subsequently on the Hospital’s masterplan renewal and Critical Care Wing Expansion, where he was responsible for the management of schematic planning in connection with municipal approvals and business case development. He is currently working on the Ken and Marilyn Thomson Patient Care Centre at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto.
