Docksteader Paramedic Reporting Station
“Docksteader Paramedic Reporting Station is an investment in a modern, forward-looking paramedic service that meets the evolving needs of a growing community.”
Nando Iannicca, Chair and CEO, Peel Region
As Peel Region’s fifth and largest EMS reporting station, the 84,000-square-foot facility consolidates critical operational functions serving as a key hub where paramedics start and end their shifts. The station expands Peel Region’s emergency response capacity while streamlining preparation, maintenance, and logistics for paramedics so that they can focus on delivering high-quality care.
The building is organized into four major programmatic blocks—Administration, Divisional Reporting, a Vehicle Bay, and Logistic/Make-Ready—that are linked by major circulation spines running north-south and east-west that clarify movement and support efficiency. Defining the massing, two 15-metre-high south-facing solar walls separate primary programs while reducing winter heating demand by approximately 30%. The two-storey design balances a bold civic presence with a welcoming human scale. A 14-metre-high Vehicle Bay houses up to 60 ambulances, while a more intimate 9-metre-high Administrative and Training wing provides dedicated fitness areas, reflection rooms, and flexible event spaces, creating a more approachable scale at the building’s public entry points.
Daylighting and transparency shape the interior environment, supporting staff well-being in a high-stress profession. Large glazing, roof monitors, and a chamfered southeast façade draw natural light deep into the floor plate, while operable panels enable natural ventilation and reduce energy demand. This transparency fosters openness, demystifying operations for the community and reinforcing the station’s civic role.
Designed as a resilient post-disaster facility, the station is intended to remain fully operational during emergencies and function as a command centre, ensuring life-saving services continue when the community needs them most. Targeting Zero Carbon Building Design certification and Net-Zero Energy readiness, the project incorporates low-carbon steel construction, a high-performance envelope, all-electric systems, and infrastructure for a future electric ambulance fleet—setting a new benchmark for sustainable civic infrastructure.
