Nigel Tai graduated from the University of Hong Kong and University of Toronto. He joined Diamond Schmitt Architects in 2008 and became an Associate in 2015. He has worked on a number of the firm’s complex institutional projects. The fast-tracked 165,000-square-foot Instructional Centre at the University of Toronto Scarborough has teaching spaces, student areas and faculty offices and opened two years after design concept approval. Adjacent to this, Mr. Tai worked on the 110,000-square-foot Environmental and Chemical Engineering Building, which provides innovative design solutions for sustainable and highly flexible research and study space.
Mr. Tai was responsible for the building envelope on the LEED Platinum certified CANMET Materials Testing Laboratory and was a team architect for the renovation and enclosure of the Thistle Courtyard, a dining facility and student commons at Brock University. He is currently project manager for the $70-million student residences at Queen’s University, which are currently under construction.
