Time is of the essence for Nigel Tai. He brings particular strength to projects where ambitious programs, demanding schedules, and multidisciplinary coordination must be carefully managed. His experience spans healthcare, academic, research, residential, community, and civic projects delivered through a range of procurement models.

Since joining Diamond Schmitt in 2008, Nigel has led projects from early programming and design through documentation, construction, and completion. He is experienced in bringing together diverse user groups, operational requirements, and technical disciplines to create flexible environments that can evolve with changing needs.

Recent projects include Myron and Berna Garron Health Sciences Complex, home to the Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health, in Toronto, the Peter George Centre for Living and Learning in Hamilton, Gladstone Village in Ottawa for Ottawa Community Housing, designed to Passive House standards; and VMC Transit City in Vaughan, a major high-density residential development within the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre.

Nigel’s experience also includes the Town of Oakville’s Trafalgar Park Revitalization, delivered through Integrated Project Delivery. The project combined the renovation and addition of a community centre with the heritage Oakville Arena and included Oakville Fire Station 3.

Across these projects, Nigel has developed strong expertise in translating ambitious programs into collaborative environments that support evolving models of education, healthcare, residential life, and community use.

Nigel is a member of the Burlington Urban Design Advisory Panel and, in 2024, was appointed to the City of Ottawa’s Urban Design Review Panel, reflecting his broader interest in how architecture can strengthen communities and contribute to the life of cities.
