LiUNA Local 183 Headquarters

“As our membership now surpasses more than 70,000 members, the demand for a highly skilled and versatile workforce continues to grow. To meet this demand, we have made significant improvements to our training facilities at our Vaughan campus to ensure every member has the necessary specialized training to perform work safely and effectively.”

Jack Oliveira, LiUNA 183 Business Manager

The new LiUNA Local 183 headquarters is the first building of a larger master plan campus development for North America’s largest construction local union and champion of workers’ rights. Creating a sense of place and activity in an area that previously had sparse development, the multi-use building serves the union’s 70,000 members and growing. The 290,000 sf facility provides collaborative and flexible workspaces, enhanced services and amenities for members, and the Gerry Gallagher Hall – a large assembly hall for important union meetings, events, and community engagement.

Comprised of a six-storey tower and three-storey wing that sits dramatically on the assembly hall which emerges from the landscape, the headquarters is arranged in this way to provide views and visual connections to a welcoming landscaped courtyard that is designed for social gatherings.

The lower level of the building is where programs and services—from medical clinics, health and wellness spaces, financial services to recreational amenities—for LiUNA staff and members are located. They create a hive of activity that establish connection and engagement with the community, while respecting the streetscape and agricultural surroundings.

Flexible work and learning spaces on the upper floors are designed to be transparent, with access to daylight, creating an open and light-filled environment that fosters occupant wellbeing.

Shaping activity in an area that was an undifferentiated industrial precinct, the new LiUNA 183 headquarters establishes a new community anchor for the City of Vaughan.
